Charley

We got Charley as a fairly young cat from the Cats Protection League, near Ashburton in Devon. His history was that he came from a loving home that couldn’t keep him any more.

He was a very friendly cat, and very confident. He adapted to life with dogs very easily and spent many years with us.

Sadly, one day he didn’t come back home for his tea. That wasn’t unusual, he often stayed away – but this time his friendly black face never did turn up and we eventually gave up calling and looking.

Blue

Blue was a border collie who came to me aged 2. His original name was Butch, but it really didn’t suit him.

He was a very proud dog and strong willed. He was already well trained, in great condition and we bonded well, although he was never one for soppy moments and responded much better to being asked than being told to do things.

We went for many long walks on Dartmoor and my wife remembers he bit her hand once at a barbeque when she tried to pull him back from getting too close to the fire! They soon became friends too and she says she always felt safe walking with him, no matter where they were.

Blue was a good friend for many years. Eventually he developed throat cancer and had to be put down. We knew it was coming and we timed the event well, with the vet coming to our home and Blue passing quietly on our rug, his favourite place. He’s buried close to the house now.
